Great article Mike! Good reminder about all the ways that space heaters can fail. The “fuzzies” discussion reminded me of something I learned watching a YouTube video about hybrid battery maintenance that might be helpful to folks. Hybrid batteries in Toyota Prius’s generate heat and have a cooling fan equipped with a filter. The filter can get clogged with fuzz and cut off or restrict air flow needed to cool the battery thus reducing its life. The filter’s I’ve cleaned were were quite dirty. They are located under the back seat near the wall on the passenger side of the car. I would assume this might apply to other hybrid and possibly EV vehicles as well and is worth checking out. I’ve owned several hybrids and had never heard about the hybrid battery air filter and the need to keep it clean. As we know, those batteries are very expensive to replace.
Mike You forgot to give people a soluation to this problem for those that still want to us Electric over the gas during these cold winter days. RV Comfort Systems has designed an Electric Heat option for RVr's that still want to reduce or eliminate the gas side of your furnace for heat. They have developed a UL Listed and RVIA complaint Hybrid Gas/Electric Furnace System for RV's. They also make an all electric furnace for RVr's that want to eleminate the gas side totally.
Thanks for the article. You got me curious. My 2019 Grand Design has an electric fireplace. It’s on a dedicated 15 amp breaker and has an outlet for just one item, the fireplace. I still shut it off if i leave the RV. Also the wife and I really enjoyed your seminar at Hershey.

Our “tip over safe” ceramic space heater is never on when we go to bed or leave our rig.
