Does it make sense for you to offer a virtual seminar or just a video to those events who have no budget? This assumes that you have rules out charging for your seminars. You could also offer a paid Q&A session.
I am highly disturbed that these groups expect your in person expertise for free. They may not have a budget, but it seems to me they could each reach into their own pockets and come up with $20 or even $50 apiece. A small group might not cover all the expenses, but it would be something.
And yes I am a paid subscriber. You have been very much more than worth it. You have published 1 or more articles per day. The other Substack that I am paid publishes 1 article every 2 weeks or so.
If these rallies could even cover my gasoline and hotel costs that would be a start. For example, my seminars in Goshen, IN are a 500 mile drive each way plus at least 2 or 3 hotel nights if I don’t take my RV trailer. That’s $200 in fuel (without a trailer) and $250 to $350 for hotels, plus meals for 3 days or more.
While FROG and Hershey do pay for my seminars, I’ve been asked to teach for free at 6 more rallies and 2 shows in 2024 already.
I am quite sure from what I have learned about you from reading your posts, it is a tug of war between your financial needs and your desire to teach. Which is why you are reluctant to push for pay.
But as my wife also remarked, people tend not to value something they get for free. So, for you Mike, I have no answers, other than: have you considered expert witness work. For I do believe you more than qualify as an expert.
But to those on this group I would say PLEASE consider becoming a paid subscriber. You get great value as well as the ability to communicate with an expert for the price of a coffee per month. Considering that many RV problems are electrical in nature, that would be money well spent, and you can also know you are helping Mike be able to teach.

I’ve tried that a few times, but most of these rallies don’t have appropriate A/V equipment or tech personnel for a remote Zoom meeting.
