You should do RV Fire Drills!
How many of you have actually done an RV fire drill with your family? Please take this poll…
Dear Readers,
I write a lot about electrical safety as it pertains to shocks due to hot skin voltage, and fires from overheated wiring or damaged/oxidized shore power connectors. And portable space heater fires are a big concern of mine. But I’ve never discussed the very important topic of doing RV fire drills with your family.
In short, if a fire starts in your RV for any reason (electrical or otherwise), you and your family may have only moments, or possibly even seconds, to escape unharmed.
I was reminded of this fact by RVe reader Lee Ditrinco in his comment about a recent RV fire in Mesa, AZ.
Thanks Lee…
Lew Ditrinco commented on my post Mesa man loses his loved ones in a deadly RV fire.
“People talk about how to get out of their house if it catches on fire but they don't prepare if their RV catches on fire. I attended a seminar at a Forest River RV Rally on the subject. I've been spreading the word ever since. The rubber seals on the emergency exit windows "glue" shut if not opened often. Do fire drills. Even if there is only one RV fire this year, if it's yours, it could save your life.”

Let’s stay safe out there… Mike
Remember Mac the Fire Guy? He impressed the importance of fire safety to many RVers. I have a picture of Chris learning how to escape. I miss him.
I’d like to see a video of exiting the emergency window by a couple of 70+ RVers.
