I believe it’s because the PD Converter/Charger is wired with its own Neutral/Ground Bond. If that’s the case then you need an L14-30 M-F adapter with the ground lifted. I believe that Reliance makes them as special adapter for this truck, but let me talk to my guys at Progressive Dynamics and Reliance to confirm.

Mike - I found the issue..... I FINALLY had some time to do some more trouble shooting....the issue was NOT the converter / charger (as some suggested)....rather the issue was with some inexpensive panel meters (and incorrect wiring)....these cheap panel meters are 2 wire (w/ an inductive pickup)....I have 2 Panel meters to monitor voltage and consumption (one per leg) inside the coach - they are 120vac & I had (both) of them on their own breaker.....BUT heres where I went wrong....I used the GROUND bar to instead of the neutral bar for the 2nd wire (in my defense this is how the instructions are written)....but once I was able to isolate it to the meters - I started looking at the wiring....and realize I was causing the ground fault. Good new is theres nothing wrong w/ the Progressive Dynamics PD9260CV Inteli-Power 9200 Series Converter/Charger. I still find it strange that I never had an issue when I was connected to any shore power, on board generator OR portable generator....and my Progressive Industries EMS-LCHW50 never complained or threw an error! The F150 ProPower On-Board (PPOB) 7.2kw works completely fine and can run the entire coach. And the panel meters work w/ the F150 (now that I rewired them, correctly).

Good sleuthing! I’ve even seen residential receptacles with the ground and neutral conductors reversed. Seems to work just fine unless there’s a GFCI receptacle upstream of it!

Mike - I continue to wonder about my (wiring mistake w/ the panel meters)....w/ the mislabeled "neutral" wire connected to the GROUND wire (on the rv)....Wouldnt I have been creating a return path thru the ground? Why didnt this create a "hot skin" situation?

Reversed neutral/ground doesn’t usually cause a high-voltage hot skin, but it can cause the local ground conductor to develop maybe 5 to 10 volts above earth potential. Is that what you’re referring to?

exactly what I was referring to.

Im using a NEMA L14-30P to 14-50R dog bone (amazon p/n CRG30450). Ive also used a Camco 55338 (30a) adapter w/ similar results. I was going to call progressive myself....im sure you would be better suited to talk to them. Im gonna try a WFCO (WF9865-AD-CB converter/charger) since some believe the issue is specific to progressive dynamics. Ive seen some claim that a Victron Multiplus doesnt fault (but $3k+ is not something I would consider - especially for functionality that I dont need).

@mike - any idea why my 50a RV's Progressive Dynamics PD9260CV Converter/Charger is causing a GROUND FAULT trigger on my F150 PowerBoost, ProPowerOnBoard (PPoB), 7.2kw generator? Everything works fine (powered by the F150) as long as I keep the circuit breaker to the converter/charger switched off.

Great article. I appreciate utility. Once our long-term tripping days are over and we downsize the trailer for shorter vacations, I'll be looking to an F150 Powerboost hybrid to provide the locomotion.

Very interesting article

Great article. I too think hybrids, not EVs are the best transition vehicle approach for the next decade as batteries, power grid and power production catches up.

Won't trying to plug in your house to the generator with the GFCI protection be like trying to plug your trailer into a 30 or 50 amp GFCI protected outlet except worse. We know that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It's the reason you were against a GFCI protection requirement for 30 and 50 amp pedestals right?

That’s true, but I think there’s a workaround for bonded generators that’s safe and allowed by code. I need a test vehicle to know for sure.
