pair of 2000 hondas since 2012 as backup for a 5th wheel. will handle single AC but have you chasing your tail if you forget & leave elect hot water on!!
We have two Honda Inverters; a 2000 is and a 3000 is. The bigger Honda travels in the bed of our pickup and I have made a patch cord from the 20 amp outlet to the 30/50 amp recepticle on our fiver. It handles pretty much all we need and with a Safestart on the 15K A/C unit it has no problems with the starting load.
I also own a F250 King Ranch with their onboard 2Kw Power Pro. My testing so far it is adequate to power my dual AC 30' Airstream. Using the in-dash gauge my coach idols at o/a 500 watts.
Made by the same people that make the Predator and the Cummins/Onan Portables. and some other look-alikes. Most smaller TTs, including mine, have no place to stow a generator. At 60 lbs, it is light enough I can lift it in and out of my Pickup truck bed. Powerful enough to run the AC effortlessly.
Runs on propane without modification. If Honda made a native propane unit, I would have bought a Honda.
Pros - great power to weight ratio.
- electric start and remote start
Cons - Noisier than advertised
- Will not start with pull start if battery is totally dead. The controls need some battery or external power to get started.
I have a Firman 7500W, which I bought basically from an auction, unused. It's big and weighs over 200lbs, but boy can it run an old ac.
Wish I had a Soft Start on my acs, But they are outrageously expensive for what must be some pretty simple technology. They cost almost as much as the generator it takes to run the ac! I keep hoping that someone will produce something affordable. In the meantime, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a used one. Looks to me like some of the newer RV acs are coming equipped with this feature.
Know anything about salvaging this from one of those units?
I have an old Honda 2000 that I use if I know I won't need the air conditioner. I also have a Firman dual fuel 3200 watt generator that I use if I need to run the air conditioner. I have a soft start installed on my air conditioner so it will work with either generator but it stresses out the Honda to run the air conditioner.
Our Honda eu2000i is very old and we don't use it often. For that reason the carb is gummed up, and it now barely runs our Coleman 1350 AC with electronic soft-start. I am looking to replace the Honda with a slightly larger propane unit to solve both problems.
I have a Westinghouse Igen4000 that I carry in the front compartment.

That should be SoftStartRV in my previous comment.

We use Firmans. we have 2. We have the parallel device. 3750 and 3500 WQ. either of them ran our 15k ac. 6 years old and I love them!
Firman 3200 starting/2900 running; recoil start; weight -about 80 lbs. 58dB.
A bit heavy, but can still lift to put in the truck bed. Fairly quiet and has been quite reliable.

How did you not list Onan/Cummins? This what is in most Class A and Class C's
I’m only interested in portable generators for this study.

I have a Westinghouse 4500 Dual Fuel. I like the option of source, as well as the clean propane burn

I should have hit something else. I use a Car Generator when camping. I only use my large Honda for home back up.
