This development is a BFD! My dad, Dr. Francis T. Cole, was one of the small team of theoretical nuclear physicists who designed and operated Fermilab. I asked him, before his death in 1994, about creating fusion power. He told me that it was unlikely that I would live to see it. It’s now unlikely that I will see it delivering power to end users but, WOW!, I’m excited to see this initial step.
Mike, that will be a cool visit. Years ago, I was lucky to visit Sandia Labs in NM. Different missions than Livermore, but no less impressive. (I was working on the EMP project.)
Like you, I have lots of electrons in my background, and I'm keen to see if fusion can be viable. The big speed bump at this point looks to be laser-generation efficiency. Kudos to all, and good luck going forward.
After seeing the video, it really looks complex. Would have been awesome if the video was narrated as it went along! I guess I live under a rock, not even heard of this type of energy before!
Wow! Now that is exciting. After decades we have reached the threshold. Sorry to say I will have passed before this comes to pass. This should become a national priority as President Kennedy made the moon landing in the 60's.

Consider my mind blown away!

what was the point of this video, looks like is was made at disney. No explanation of what we are seeing.
I’m going to do an in-depth explanation of how Fusion reactors work soon. This is gonna be fun!

They’ve always said that fusion power is 30 years away, but every year it’s still 30. . Maybe that 30 year number will start to count down.
That’s what I hope. I can’t wait to see the NIF for myself!
