Mike I have three soft starts on my RV air conditioners. They start much easier. My hope is that they will extend the life of my three roof units. At my house I have an Electric Saver ES1200 surge suppression unit wired to my breaker panel. Does this serve the same function as installing a soft start on my A/C compressor?
Nope… The SoftStartRV is totally different technology.
The ES1200 appears to be a power correction capacitor. Since the power company doesn’t charge residential customers any extra for poor power factor, there’s no possibility of reducing your electric bill.
what about soft start with RV using two 2500 Watt Champion dual fuel generators linked together. I am considering this option until I can get my rig wired for the Master Volt power charging system offered by ABC outfitters up in Indiana? I need the generators due to light weight - 27 pounds each to be able to life them in and out of truck. Looking at buying them from Camping World and adding the soft start to the AC unit which will be switched out to Truma Brand when I add the master volt power charging system.
Mike, I have been following your home Softstart project with great interest. While power outages are not yet a regular occurrence here, I live in the New Orleans and extended power outages with storms and hurricanes are a way of life. Historically we have used contractor generators to keep refrigerators, freezers and box fans running in 98 deg heat, sometimes for weeks, during these events. Fuel savings and noise reduction are reason enough to consider a dual fuel inverter generator.
With that in mind, since my house requires a 4 ton A/C, I have been thinking about adding a mini split to one bed room as a back up. Would I use a RV Softstart or your new house Softstart on a minisplit or does it use one?

Thanks for the response Mike!

Yes, that should work great. Let me know if you have any questions…

A Mini-Split air/co uses a DC Inverter compressor which does not need or use a SoftStartHome controller.
