Sleepy time without my GeoPro trailer…
Here’s what I think could be a simple solution to catching 40 winks without a camper in tow!
I tow a really nice GeoPro toy hauler much of the time when driving around the country teaching seminars. I can put a ton (literally) of demonstration gear in the back, and still have a comfy place to sleep in the front. Plus it has a MasterVolt solar package with a 400Ah Lithium battery, so I don’t even have to plug into a pedestal.
It’s great having a bedroom 20 feet behind me, but on a lot of trips it’s just me and my truck. And while I used to be able to drive 16 hours per day, now I’m pooped after 8 hours. So I need to catch a hotel for the night, and sometimes finding one is a challenge.
I hate paying lots of bucks for just 8 hours of sack time in a hotel, and sleeping in the front seat of a truck at a rest stop doesn’t work for me. What I need is a back seat bed in my F-150 SuperCab. And an added bonus would be a heated blanket or pad of some kind.
What about a rear seat mattress?
I found this inflatable rear seat mattress at eTrailer. Looks like it will fit in my truck and with a little luck, so will I. While I’m 6 ft tall, I’m used to napping on a couch with my legs slightly bent. So this could work for 8 hours of rest in a Cracker Barrel parking lot.
But what about some heat?
One of the comments in my article on powering an electric blanket from an inverter was about a 12-volt DC heated pad that seems perfect for this. The Ignik Flipside looks like a winner for my application. So I could be as snug as a bug in a rug in the back seat of my truck.
Will this work?
I’m not sure, but it looks good at first blush. So I’ve asked both manufactures for product samples to try. I’ll then do a full review of how well it works on a truck-only road trip.

Have any of you done something similar? Any better inflatable bed? What about a different brand heating pad? Any other ways to solve this sleeping problem? Let me know your thoughts.
I know it’s not helpful but I would take the trailer with me for the additional toilet and kitchen features
Just get a truck topper. You will be able to put a wood frame across in front of box. (Even better if you have a opening rear window in your truck. Window curtains. 12v motion detector lites. Add what comfort you want. Diesel heater, refrigerator, fan vent in roof. Cassette toilet, maybe solar panels, propane source. Think about, plan it out.
