It’s very easy to confuse VA (Volt-Amps or Watts) which is power, with Wh (Watt-hrs) which is energy. Though related, these are two different things…

The actual power requirements are less than 3 amps. That's just the rating. But the 1500va rating of the ups powers the load for 15 minutes?

Remember there’s a big difference between a 1500VA (watt) UPS that has a 10 Ah battery for 30 minutes of backup power and a 1500Wh (1,500 watt-hr) Jackery with a 120Ah battery that can provide a dozen or more hours of backup power.

Mike:

I'm writing to you because I'm starting to see all these "watt stopper by Elon Musk" ads all over the internet. Even Amazon is promoting and selling this junk. As an Electrical Engineer I know all the claims they are making are totally bogus and as a fan of Elon Musk and his innovations I am positive he is not part of this scam. You are very well admired and respected in the electrical and rv communities and I am hoping you will use your forum to educate people on the truth of these fake and misleading claims.....

Mike I'm looking for a backup power source for my oxygen concentrator. Its rated at 3amps @ 120volts. I need to be able to provide at least 24 hours service. My power provider has had 2 24 hour outages lately and that causes me problems. I purchased a Tripp lyte 1500va ups system but it only provides 15 minutes backup?

What’s the brand and model? Are you sure it uses 3 amps continuously? In order to answer your question you need to measure the actual kWh usage for a 24-hour period. Then I can help you pick a solution. The easiest way to do this is to get something like this power meter and run your oxygen concentrator for 24-hours.
