We just started using the Ignik 12 volt heated bed cover. It draws only 48 watts on high, and 60% is plenty hot. Put between the mattress and bottom sheet, so itis under you. Has a timer too. We used it a lot during the arctic blast last week and it is a fantastic product. They make a blanket too, but the physics are better for the bed cover.

Mike,

How about using a 12V blanket and thus avoiding whatever inefficiencies the inverter might have?

there are PLENTY of 12vdc electric blankets available, in fact my wife has been using one for years!

On road trips I like it cool(er), while she prefers it to be warmer (typical husband/wife thing)....she has a small "throw" size blanket that is 12vdc heated (has a thermostat/wheel)....it may have even saved our marriage during road trips! ;) There is a huge variety of sizes available!

Thanks Mike. I’d love to see what you’ve learned about which kinds of devices work with modified sine wave inverters and which ones don’t work. I have not had good luck with them but have never seen or taken the time to really look into it.
