Is there a magnetic shore power connector?
No, but there’s a really great upgrade to your existing twist-lock plug!
Hi Mike,
I seem to remember you talking about loose connections with the 30 amp shore power cord with the locking ring. I think you mentioned a plug that made a magnetic connection at the RV, but couldn’t find a mention on Amazon.
Thanks again - Mike P
Hey Mike P,
I don’t know of any magnetic 🧲 30-amp shore power cord connectors. But I’ll bet you’re asking about SmartPlug connectors.
These are really easy to install, and have 20 times the contact area of a traditional twist-lock plug. I’ve done extensive testing on SmartPlugs and think they’re far superior to existing twist-lock connectors.
Here’s a video I made of how easy they are to plug into your RV.
SmartPlugs also come in kits with just the replacement plug and inlet connectors for your RV, so you can reuse your existing 30 or 50-amp cord set.
Where to buy SmartPlugs (and lots of other RV stuff).
I’ve recently started an affiliate program with TechnoRV which does pay me a small commission on products that you purchase from them. I’ve know Eric and Tami for years, and their customer service and educational programs are fantastic. That’s something you don’t get from Amazon or eBay (as much as I like both of them). So click the TechnoRV logo above and take a look around. Many of their products were independently reviewed by me before they became dealers for them. For a direct link click HERE.
Let’s play safe out there… Mike
Thanks Mike, for writing this excellent guide to electrical safety in the RV. I purchased this years ago and it still travels with us. There's a lot to learn when purchasing an RV and it all centers around electrical safety.
"Thanks for contacting us. Yes we are currently working on the 90 degree plug and will be out mid next year."
