Dear Readers,
I recently published a SubStack newsletter about 2024 GM 2500HD and 3500HD trucks shutting down their onboard trailer brake controllers randomly. Please read it HERE.
No, GM never answered me back
While I don’t have a response from GM engineering on how to correct it, and they may have a software update, I’m not confident they have the solution. That’s because an RV with a Lithium Battery and Solar Panels will always have higher voltage at the trailer house battery (which is also used to power the trailer breakaway brake systems) than the tow vehicle with a Lead-Acid battery. That backfeed voltage may be the root of the problem.
I have an idea…
I may have a possible solution that would be non-invasive. But in order to know if it works I need to find a truck/trailer that’s exhibiting this problem and try it out. But since this is a life-safety issue I’m not going to simply mail a fix and see what happens. I need to visit the truck and trailer site for a day and get you to take me for a few test rides to be sure.
Do you have a 2024 GM 2500HD or 3500HD and trailer with this problem?
Since I have zero budget for this and zero support from GM, I need to do this on my own. So if you have a GM 2024 HD truck and trailer and you’re within a day’s drive of Maryland, I’m willing to make the trip to test my fix on your vehicle.

Please email jmichaelsokol (at) icloud (dot) com with the subject “brakes” and I’ll get back to you to discuss possible timing. Don’t leave your contact info here.
I have a 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 and recently had the same brake disconnect problem.
Mike, I sent you an email at your address that you gave.

No, soonest appointment with a gm dealer end of month April. I disconnected the Sealed lead acid battery on the trailer tongue for the brake away system and That fixed the disconnect problem for the most part. I've towed my boat 1400 miles since beginning of February
