12-volt DC vs. Propane Refrigerators in tunnels
Seasoned RV travelers will probably know this, but newbies may not…
Everyone,
Here’s one more reason to consider installing a 12-volt DC refrigerator in an RV instead of propane. Some tunnels, ferries and bridges may not allow entrance with propane tanks over a certain capacity. So in those cases, a 12-Volt refrigerator may be a better choice compared to propane.
Yes, I know that if you want to boondock with a 12-volt DC refrigerator you’ll need at least 400-watts of solar panels to keep the battery fully charged. And yes, you’ll probably want 200Ah or more of Lithium batteries. But both items are getting more affordable every day…
Propane and Trailer Restrictions
Here’s a non-comprehensive list from AAA on propane and trailer restrictions for tunnels, ferries and bridges. Best to know in advance before you have a trip-altering problem.

Let’s play safe out there… Mike
Mike, your point, about a 12V fridge not requiring propane, is moot for those of us who also heat, cook, and make hot water with propane. I have a fabulous Novakool 12V fridge, and its primary features are REALLY fast/good cooling and 50% more inside space than a propane Norcold it replaced. And BTW, it consumes about 40AH per day.
A correction to your Chart-
In Baltimore MD, the Francis Scott Key Bridge doesn't exist right now.
It was hit a few months ago by a container ship and fell into the river.
