Tony Barthel and I will host a Town Hall webinar on campground pedestal metering
This Live Webinar will be held on Thursday, Jan 11, starting at 7 p.m. EST
Everyone,
A few weeks ago I ran a survey on the topic of campgrounds metering electric power. As RV trailers and motorhomes increase their power usage due to high energy appliances and more air conditioners, campgrounds are struggling to provide clean and stable power to everyone. And EV charging is becoming a real challenge at some campgrounds. Is pedestal metering a way to deal with this, or are there other solutions?
Here’s the survey results

Mike Sokol recently stirred up a bit of controversy when he asked, “Should RV parks meter pedestal power?”
Sokol raised the question in an email to thousands of subscribers, and as he put it, “I was blown away by both the number of responses and the passion.”
Regarding your poll on individual metering for electricity at campgrounds. I believe you left off another logical choice: I would be willing to pay for my own individual electricity usage provided the amount that each campground has ALREADY added to cover my usage is first deducted from the daily/weekly/whatever rate. Like a hotel, they are already estimating usage and adding it to the daily charge. At a campground with full hookups the daily rate already includes amounts for sewer, water and electrical connection.
