Campground AEDs and CPR training…
Please take this poll and weigh in on if you think campgrounds should have an Automated External Defibrillator on site and provide CPR training for their staff.
In the beginning…
As many of you know, I originally got interested in writing for the RV industry as a way to save RV owners from death by electrocution. For years I’ve also wanted to add an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and Compression-Only CPR demonstration to my live seminars and video webcasts. But I’ve never gotten any traction with the AED manufacturers or CPR training facilities, and without their support I can’t afford to do this.
However, with the recently televised cardiac arrest of Damar Hamlin during a football game last week, it may be the right time to jumpstart this training program.
And while I can likely be successful in getting an AED and CPR dummy donated to my training program, I’ve often wondered just how many campgrounds have an AED in their office, and do any of them provide CPR training for their staff?
FYI: I’ve never seen an AED at a campground, but maybe I’m just not looking hard enough.
(Maybe) there’s an App for that…
I’ve also been in contact with PulsePoint, a company that has created a smartphone App which can alert nearby CPR trained citizens who have the App, and direct them to anyone in the area needing CPR or AED intervention.
That way if a someone at a remote campground were to go into cardiac arrest or stopped breathing, any CPR trained campers in the area could be alerted and directed to the person in need of help.
Think of it sort of like the WAZE driving app, but instead of telling you where a cop is on the road, you would be notified that someone in the area was in need of CPR.
I’ll report back once I have a discussion with PulsePoint tech support about using their app at remote campgrounds.
Is this important to you?
So please take this poll and let me know if you think that campgrounds should have an AED in their office. Or do you think it’s only important that they provide CPR training for their staff? Or should campgrounds have an AED as well as provide CPR training? And if you think neither one is important, please let me know as well.
That’s a wrap!
In any event, please let me know your thoughts on this topic, and share any CPR or AED stories in the comments below.
And let’s stay safe out there - Mike
How about this? What if there was a Heart/CPR decal that could be placed in the upper corner of your windshield denoting you had CPR training? That could let others know who’s door to knock on at a campground in the event of a cardiac emergency.
I agree!
