Renogy Solid State Battery Update!
I now know dimensions and price of this battery. Plus there was an error in the press release on recharging time…
UPDATE!!!
There was an error in the press release. This battery does NOT have a 15-minute charging time. It actually takes 1.5 hours to fully recharge, which is typical of most Lithium batteries. And I’ve asked for a sample that I can test to verify product details myself. - Mike
Latest details…
MSRP will be $999
2.4” thick, parallel up to 8 batteries
1.5 hours recharging time

Let’s play safe out there… Mike
Hi Mike,
This is certainly an interesting development, but I'm trying to get a handle on how it compares to existing batteries.
I didn't see dimensions other than the 2.4" thickness, but based on measuring the photos, it appears to be ~12.4" wide and ~25" long. Can you confirm this?
Any idea what it weighs?
At ~$10/Amp Hr, it's ~2.5x - 3.3x the cost of good-quality LiFePO4 batteries, which are currently in the $3 - $4/Amp Hr range.
Bottom line:
If the dimensions above are accurate, the battery is thin, but it's actually higher volume than many batteries with similar capacity, and it's substantially more expensive. That makes me feel better about my recently-completed 600Ah LiFePO4 battery upgrade. No FOMO at the moment, but this technology will be interesting to watch! :-)
I was wondering how Renogy could pull off a 15 min charge time. At 100% efficiency, that would require a 400A charger (4,800W)! And good luck getting that much power at 120V!
