Prank trailer disconnect
Check your hitch latch and receiver pin after you’re away from your trailer or Toad!
Everyone,
Found this on the RV Tips Facebook group. Some pranksters like to pull the pins on your trailer hitch and hope to see an accident! This is exactly why I have locks on my receiver pin and hitch latch.

The sick-os have struck again! This was the result of some de-ranged sick person thinking it was OK to remove the pin clips from both the receiver pin and the hitch latch!! This happened yesterday on I-95 North near Fredricksburg, VA!!! My long time friend and co-worker was able to get his motorhome and dolly with his Jeep attached stopped without tradgedy! One safety chain remained attached, which luckily held the dolly behind him! At first he thought the pin clip had maybe broken or fallen out, then he noticed the pin/clip was also missing from the latch! 3-1/2 hours later after repairs and rewiring he has able to get back going! This really brings to light the fact anyone towing anything needs to double check everything if you have left your rig unattended at all! Thank you John Dorn for sharing this and thank God you and your family are safe!!!
Back to me
I always walk around my rig for a quick visual inspection of tires, fluid leaks and hitch connections before I get on the road after any stop. I don’t care if I’m just at a rest stop for 5 minutes to do a potty break. I always loop around my truck and trailer looking for anything suspicious. It only takes a minute or two, but well worth your time if you find something potentially dangerous, especially like the story above.
Let’s play safe out there… Mike
Locking pins!
It's just plain common sense pulling any trailer that you perform a walk around inspection of lights, hitch apparatus, and tires before your trip and at ANY stop.
