My First Feature Article on Hot-Skin Voltage
I was the cover story in RV Technician Magazine back in 2011...
I began writing for the RV industry back in 2010 with a lot of emphasis on hot-skin voltage conditions. One of my pro-sound colleagues was getting shocked on a million dollar Prevost tour bus and wondered why it was happening. Well, by that time I had already been troubleshooting and repairing stage amplifiers and big sound systems from shock and hum problems, so I had a head start on why a hot-skin shock voltage occurs on busses, coaches, 5th wheels and tow-behind trailers.
Turns out once you understand the basic concepts of grounding, bonding and fault currents, finding and fixing RV hot-skin voltage is pretty straightforward. But surprisingly to me, the RV industry didn’t seem to understand why hot-skin shocks happen and how to fix the root causes.
Here’s the first feature article I wrote about hot-skin voltage for RV Technician Magazine back in 2011. Please feel free to send it to anyone you know who’s having problems with RV hot-skin shocks.
