Everyone,
During my webcast with Tony Barthel last night there were a number of questions about the reliablity of 12-volt refrigerators. I think it would be interesting to do a poll on the reliability of all major groups of refrigerators. Please take the poll below and let us know if you had a failure with an absorption, residential or 12-volt DC refrigerator in your RV. Or if you’ve never had a failure with your RV fridge, take the second poll. That way I can get a overview of the failure profile.
And leave your details about any failures in the comments below
Thanks for your help.
Let’s play safe out there… Mike
My 6 cu ft Norcold absorbing has run continuous on 120v at home for ten years. Not counting trips with travel days on gas and 120v upon destination. Only problem is replacing two thermistors during that time. Cooling a little week in 100 degree plus weather. I have an inside and outside fan.
My Norcold is original in 1994 Winnebago 34' Vectra. I bought mtrhm used, about 15 yrs ago, so not sure of previous use. My use has been on both electric or gas as service available. I have it plugged in all summer at home to a 120v 30 amp home outlet. I have noticed, since a year ago vandals let the air out of the two duals on the street side - same side as fridge - it now takes a cold setting of about 5 or 6 when previously it was 2-3. I understand the damage from off-level use is cumulative - so just holding my breath on how long it might last. Tires were flat for about 36 hrs before noticed. Also, now concerned about overheating and possible fire! (It was not one of the recall units).
