Bungee Cords to the rescue!
“Short Circuits” - Securing 30-amp Shore Power plugs to pedestals and RV-Ready generators just got a little easier…
A “Short” article about “Circuits”…
Necessity is the Mother of Invention.
I hate bungee cords, yes I do! But I also hate 30-amp TT-30 plugs since they keep falling out of my test pedestal and generator outlets. And these are not worn-out receptacles that have seen their better days. These are brand new 30-amp outlets with brand new 30-amp plugs. But the TT-30 design is pretty poor to begin with, so they tend to disconnect themselves.
The fix is in…
So I simply wrapped a few short bungee cords around the offending plugs, and they’ve been staying plugged in during weeks of testing. You can get a jar of different length bungee cords at Lowes, Harbor Freight or Amazon.
Now this isn’t a fix for an aged pedestal outlet with oxidized and loose contacts. But I think a few well placed bungee cords could help keep it all together.
Pedestal Bungees
The 30-amp shore power plug tends to pull out of the receptacle, but a pair of bungee cords holds it in securely.
Generator Bungees
I prefer twist-lock outlets on generators because they can be locked in, but many 3,000-watt class generators are so called “RV Ready” with a TT-30 receptacle. And some even have the TT-30 outlets mounted with the ground pin in the down position. That makes the plug prone to falling out simply from the weight of the cable. But a bungee cord wrapped around the handle fixes the problem.
Lets Plug ‘n Play safe out there… Mike
